Day 18, 24 to go

Libra horoscope, free daily horoscopes for Libra

This is THE most correct horoscope I have read in a LOOOONG time. And I totally agree with it! Here's why:

Unfortunately, I have a stomach virus, similar, I believe, to one I had last summer.
Because of this, I will be pushing back the end of my eating plan for another week, or for as long as I'm sick, as I really can't eat like Dr. Fuhrman would like me to. I'm still eating cooked green veggies, but with a lot more carbs than he'd like. The lettuce and stuff are just too acidic or something for my stomach, because they upset it so much. AWFUL! But I will learn to deal.

Don't worry, though--I will keep writing in the blog!

Yesterday
Thursday February 18, 2010:
Breakfast: berries and orange (ended up being a baaaad idea...)
Snack: nothing, didn't feel like eating anything
Lunch: I tried to eat salad, and had a little bit of apple, but still didn't really feel like eating anything. I ate hardly anything
Snack: Oyster Crackers--a LOT of them. I felt better, but also felt guilty for eating so much processed carbs and salt and everything. NOT good, but made me feel sooo much better.
Dinner: minestrone soup, which felt really, really good.
Snack: none. no idea what might upset me.

So today, the 19th, I'm just going to stick to the foods that the Doctor I saw for my stomach problems told me to eat, and hopefully by next Monday (a week since I started having problems), all will be well and Dr. Fuhrman and I can get back in harmony.

Wish me luck and good health!

Day 17, 25 to go

Well yesterday, despite all my bad thoughts, went well! I ended up eating out for dinner with my writing group, which was fun and went well, but sometimes it's hard to watch everyone eat and eat and eat, and the salad I get just isn't really enough to make me full. That's also where I just have to remember why I'm doing this, and why it's important to resist temptation. It's a good mental exercise, I guess, although not exactly fun. But hopefully, being thin (eventually) will be worth it.

Unfortunately, today has been a bad stomach day, so a lot of oyster crackers were involved. But we'll talk about that tomorrow.

Anyway, here's the diet for the day:
Wednesday, February 17, 2010:
Breakfast: berries and orange
Snack: grapes and strawberries
Lunch: mixed greens salad with tomatoes, chickpeas, and balsamic vinegar
Snack: orange, some grapes maybe
Dinner: Salad (smallish) with a touch of balsamic vinaigrette dressing
Snack: grapes, pita bread with a banana

That's all for now, but I hope things will go well today even with stomach problems. I wonder what Dr. Fuhrman would say to stomach problems, where carbs and saltines feel so much better than acidic fruits and green veggies. Not a lot of nutrition in the veggies, tho...

Suggestions? Thanks!

Day 16, 26 to go

And again, I'm totally behind. But it was a good day on Tuesday, without any setbacks. Yay! Other than that, I don't have anything to report, which I think is a good thing. Back to the daily grind! So it goes...

The food:
Breakfast: berries and orange
Snack: banana! yay for being back at work
Lunch: salad with balsamic vinegar, it was rather small but i made do, and an apple
Snack: grapes, banana, fruits of some variety
Dinner: I made this recipe, http://www.fatfreevegan.com/veggies/tangy.shtml, from a Vegan Recipes website that I use a lot, and I didn't like that it used Soy Sauce (even low sodium), because that's also sooo full of sodium. But I made it and ate it and liked it, and still have some left over for another day. It's so hard to find recipes that don't use any oil, salt, butter, soy sauce, or any other kind of salt or sauce--just veggies and spices. I can be really difficult! And sometimes, honestly, I just don't feel like eating them. I miss salt! Any suggestions?
Snack: orange and grapes. DAMN i love grapes! :)

Day 15, 27 to go

So I woke up, remembered that I had to weigh myself (thank you green post-it!), and I'm...144 lbs. I half-pound UP from last week!!!!!! I was horrified, remembered what I'd eaten the day before, and completely disgusted with myself. I also had my period that week, which was still going on, so I dearly and sincerely hope that some of that weight was girly bloating weight. God save me and my horrible eating! Needless to say, today (the next day), I brought my Eat to LIve to my first day of work since my vacation (went quite well!), and am getting back on track.

Dr. Fuhrman says that if you have a bad day, all you have to do is keep strong for the rest of the days and all the bad eating from one day will be obliterated by the good eating you guiltily do after that. I still have a month left of the plan, so I think if I can just stay strong, and stop finding excuses to eat badly, then I should be fine. Just like going to Arizona, the flying part was the worst part. I'll have to work on that and find a solution, but since I see no travel in my future for the rest of the Six-Week Plan, I'm not going to worry about it right now.

Anyway, I felt fine, at least, for the first half of the day, and met up with a friend, but around 1:30pm I started to feel pretty awful, and I blame the cashews. Mostly because even when I think about them, I start to feel sick again. No more nuts for this girlie! I'm definitely not eating them again for a while. Anyway, I had lots of saltines (bad! again!) and later had some soup and stuff, and today I feel fine. It's hard when you know what foods will make you feel better, but you don't want to give up on your plan just for a bit of stomach problem.

Here's the eats:
Breakfast: orange and apple (a big one!)
Snack: saltines--to be honest, and entire sleeve of "hint of salt" low-sodium saltines, which I'm glad they weren't just 100% salt, but is still very processed, and very, very bad. but it made my stomach feel better, so I can't regret it.
Lunch: read above. I'm ashamed.
Dinner: organic vegetable soup and pita bread. Both of these weren't exactly the best for me--the soup had some pasta in it, which felt great in my stomach, and the pita bread was even more carbs but again felt very, very good. I won't regret eating something that made me feel better when I was feeling very, very sick, but I also wish that there was another way around it that gave me perhaps some better nutrition.

So that's that, and I can't take it back. It was two days of completely awful, but don't worry--I'll remember that. I felt HORRIBLE yesterday, my stomach was aching and I felt very, very sick but I really do think it was a lack of greens and surplus of nuts. Ugh--it makes me feel ill just thinking about them. But now I'm going to the grocery store, getting back on the plan, maybe even finding some good recipes for the next few days, and hopefully going to healthy-eat my way out of the hole. And feel better! I still feel a bit gross....

Send along some healing thoughts so I can have a LOSS on the scale for next Sunday!
Thanks....

Day 14, 28 to go

I forgot to weigh myself on Sunday, so I will have to write about it for the next post. As I write to you right now it's Tuesday, but I want to save everything so that I have one post per day, and nothing much else.

Sunday was the unfortunate day that I had to go home from Arizona, back to the snow and cold and waiting for winter and having ridiculously dry skin. It's also rather sad that I am losing all my insulation during the winter (although not that sad!), so I'm also cold all the time. I was NEVER cold when I was really, really fat! Oh, well--look hot, feel cold! Although I wouldn't necessarily classify myself as hot. Yet.

Anyway, here's the food:
Breakfast: apple and orange and berries (I think--some fruit of some kind, I know)
Snack: orange and probably an apple and some baby carrots. I remember I was pretty hungry that day...
Lunch: the restaurant we wanted to go to wasn't open, so we ended up eating Indian, which isn't exactly on my eating plan, but I was hungry and wasn't sure if we would be going home next, so I had vegetable curry, but I didn't eat any rice. The veggies were cauliflower, carrots, peas, and some other things (so not that much green, I'm afraid), and I tried to eat as little sauce as possible, but it really was quite good.
Snack: a spinach salad with an orange and balsamic vinegar to make up for the horrible lunch, also a few (maybe even quite a few?) unsalted roasted cashews that my mommy got me for Valentine's day. I kept making the excuse that I was on vacation and that it was a holiday, but am now completely ashamed of my excuses. Bad Ginny!
dinner: We flew home that night, so I didn't get a proper dinner either (horrible girl! horrible day!), but did have 2-3 apples, a handful of strawberries, an orange (so delicious!), and waaaay more of the cashews from Mom than I should have had.

It was basically a big failure of a day. BUT tomorrow you'll see that I paid for it--a LOT.

Day 13, 29 to go

So as I write this, although I am writing about yesterday, I have made it to the two-week mark, and am quite proud of myself. I have stuck to it pretty well, despite some bad days and a 10-day vacation. The vacation wasn't perfect, I'll admit, but I think Dr. Fuhrman would forgive me for being human. And I hope you do, too!

Anyway, here's what I ate yesterday:
Saturday, February 13, 2010:
Breakfast: berries and orange
Lunch: salad at a restaurant with a teensy bit of some sort of creamy dressing, tomatoes (I think) and some toasted pumpkin seeds (oops--but I didn't taste any salt or have any more nuts). the salad wasn't very big so I had a...
Lunch Continued: spinach, tofu, balsamic vinegar, and an apple
Snack: orange, apple, banana, maybe a couple of strawberries in there somewhere. I love my fruit!
Dinner: tiny salad at a restaurant, with again a very little bit of a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. it was so small that I went home and had...
Dinner Continued: small baked potato, spinach, crushed chickpeas, balsamic vinegar, and yet another apple.
Snack: Orange. They're delicious here! soooo good. yum.

So that's about it--not perfect with the bits of salad dressing and the toasted seeds, but pretty good all the same. We're going home tonight, so when I next write I'll be back at home! Sorry to leave, but happy to see my friends again!

Thanks for reading!

Day 10-12, 30 to go

OH my goodness I have totally forgotten what we've eaten on this trip! Unfortunately I have a terrible memory, and have been completely unfaithful in my recounting my exact diet.

So...I will summarize.

A lot of salads, with as little dressing and extremities as humanly possible. One day I had a handful of Sister's cereal (sorry, Sister) for my healthy carb of the day, and another day I had another handful of Sister's cereal (sorry...again...), but for the most part it was either a baked potato or a piece of toast. I've eaten lots of fruits, and mostly berries and an orange for breakfast. I ate baby carrots and fruit when I got hungry, and that's about it.

Hopefully tomorrow at the airport I can write about today. I will also admit that yesterday when we were out with friends, I had a champagne/vodka cocktail. However, I haven't had any alcohol in ages. I did also forget that the Wednesday before last when I was at a mexican restaurant I had a glass of Sangria. Dr. Fuhrman says that a glass of wine a day is fine, so I think sangria one week and a cocktail the next isn't too bad. I know the vodka isn't good, but it was a special occasion. I promise to do better in the future.

Other than that, I return from my vacation tomorrow and to my normal life. Good news: I can make more of my own meals. Bad news: snow. snow snow snow. ugh.

Thanks for reading!

Day 9, 33 to go

Well, despite the unfortunate experience I had yesterday, I think it went pretty well! I stayed on the plan, at least, and didn't voluntarily have to leave it. I'm also pretty upset that the vegan restaurant had to close, because it was a really great one.

Anyway, here's the final tally:
Breakfast: banana, orange, and a few berries
Snack: none, I'm afraid
Lunch: green salad with a bit of raspberry vinaigrette and tomatoes
Snack: none, I'm afraid
Dinner: Mom and Sister got takeout, and I had green beans with tofu, grilled red peppers, and grilled tomatoes. It's basically the same thing I had on Sunday, but with green beans and I cooked it differently. No salt or oil, though, so I'm pretty happy about that.

I also got some Sketchers Shape-ups yesterday, and tried them out today which was exciting. I definitely feel it in my butt, which is great! I want to have a nice ass...

Unfortunate Experience

So this was something that happened today that I simply had to blog about, since it was really strange, and an excellent example of why and how I have quite the six-week plan before now.

Because of these last couple of days of going to restaurants, eating salad with way too few greens and way too much dressing (and zero legumes), I have started taking baby carrots and maybe a fruit of some kind with me so that I don't starve when my mom and sister are totally full/fine/whatever, and I am dying of hunger, and secretly sobbing because I can't eat anything around me. The first couple of days of "vacation eating" weren't easy, mostly because I am just so used to being able to go home, and making everything myself, etc. A bit harder on vacation.

Anyway, today we were going to go to a vegan restaurant here that I've LOVED before, and so since I knew I could get tofu and lots of greens there, I didn't bring any extra snacks with me.
The vegan restaurant had closed. So Mom and Sister wanted to go to a restaurant called "Bacon", and I didn't want to be the asshat who can't go because it's called Bacon.

So we get there, and see the menu, and while there is a lot of meat there, they actually have hummus dishes and other vegetarian/vegan friendly things. BUT I have had enough salt for the month because of salad dressings, and I order a green salad, no croutons, dressing on the side.
The salad comes with bacon--bacon FAT--sprinkled all over the damn thing. I'm not going to eat this bacon (gross!), but I also hate being the asshat who is so damn picky, and who orders as if she knows better than the chef. I hate being that person that makes servers say "then why even come out to eat?" I just don't have the courage to just tell them what I want--damn the friends/family I'm out with, damn the servers, damn the chef. So I pick the bacon off, meanwhile my sister is looking at me like she wishes her sister could just be a little bit more sane, and I feel ridiculous. The waitress comes over and asks about it, I tell her I don't eat meat, she looks a me like I'm an insane person to come to a restaurant named "Bacon", and gets me another one.

About half of the greens have spoiled, and have that slimy dark look about them that makes me just KNOW that I'm going to be sick if I eat it. So NOW I have to go through the second salad and pick out all the greens that have gone bad. And my sister is looking at me as if she wished I would just stay home. And I don't blame her! It must be embarrassing to eat with someone so picky.

But I really want to do this. And the past four times that I have tried--and failed!--to stay on the six-week plan, one little aberration that I willingly make means that I can now go off the plan. No one came out and smacked me on the head with a baseball bat when I had a piece of chocolate, so I can have another one tomorrow. But I don't want chocolate. I mean, I do, but not really. What I want is to go from 146 lbs to 130 lbs. I have never weighed that little in my life, and I want to. I want so badly just to see what that would be like. To know, once and for all, if any interactions in my daily life change when I'm a different size. Or were most of them because I was fat? What changes? Will 50 yr old men finally stop hitting on me, or is it really my friendly personality? Will cute guys finally start hitting on me, or was it really my assertive personality? I want the answers to these questions--those that have pestered me all my life--to finally reach me. I want to know, as best as I can. And I want to know what it might feel like to be one of the Beautiful People. Maybe I'll never know, but I think this plan and this blog are going to help me. And of course I want stress-free dining. Of course I want chocolate cake with a marble frosting, peppermint bon-bon ice cream on the side. But I know what that tastes like, and I don't know what being thin feels like.

And my ultimate defense against the situation: if you got a pink chicken, where you couldn't eat it, wouldn't you send it back, too? Should I be then expected to eat spoiled greens? I would get sick, too. Just as much as you would with undercooked meat.

Thanks for reading--please comment to let me know you're out there!
All my love.

Day 8, 34 to go

Well, on this morning I finally remembered to weigh myself. Because of the oil and salt that I've gotten from salad dressings, and perhaps the sauce from that Dr. Weil restaurant's (True Foods in Phoenix) teriyaki bowl, I knew that I might not have lost as much weight as I would have wanted to, but I've done my best.
Anyway, I weighed myself and I weigh 143.5, which is 3 lbs less than last Sunday. I'm actually really excited about this, because I calculated, and if I only lose 3 lbs a week, I actually lose 18 lbs over the six weeks of the plan. If I can get it together and lose 4 lbs for 3 of the six weeks, I lose 21 lbs. Not bad! I've always wanted to be in the low 130s, and if at all possible below 130, and this would definitely get me there! So as long as I keep this up for the next five weeks, I should be good. I'm excited about this!

And now for the final countdown:
Monday, February 8, 2010:
Breakfast: berries and orange
Snack: none
Lunch: mixed greens salad with cut pears and an unfortunately slathered dressing, but it was a vinaigrette. As usual, no beans or tofu, and it simply wasn't big enough. I was still hungry when we left. I need greens, people!
Snack: baby carrots from home throughout the day.
Dinner: another salad from a mexican restaurant that was ridiculously tiny. What is with these people and their greens? are they having a shortage back there? It was also in one of those taco shell things, which was hard for me to not eat, but I didn't and am very proud of myself. Because it was so small, however, I needed...
Dinner part two: Baked Potato (maybe bigger than I need, but I was hungry), spinach and lots and lots and lots of chickpeas. Fun! After that, plus an apple, I was finally full. I also had a handful of roasted peanuts, which I regret since I'd had olive oil that day, obviously, but the package said it had 0 mg of Sodium, and I believed it. I was very, very, very hungry.

I do really beat myself up for my mistakes and my missteps from Fuhrman's plan, as I do really want to stay true to his plan and see if it makes a difference. At the same time, I do think that if I have say a vinaigrette salad dressing that has olive oil in it and some salt, which isn't the end of the world (esp if I remember to skip the nuts), then I'm not tempted to have say the tortilla chips that are on the table, even though I'm starving and dying for food. I've already cheated once today, and I don't need to do it again. It keeps me honest, and keeps me from eating the really, really bad things even when I can feel that clawing hunger in the pit of my stomach.

That's my theory anyway, and now I'm done updating my diet until tomorrow, when hopefully I'll remember to write what I ate today!

My love to anyone who reads this...

Day 7, 35 to go

Sunday was the same situation as Saturday--a lot of eating out, and not wanting to bother my family with my eating woes. My mom is cool with everything, but I can see that my sister is getting annoyed about it, and I think she also thinks it is quite ridiculous. Then again, she suggested I do a seven-day cleanse eating or drinking nothing except this certain drink or fancy water or something, which I think sounds absolutely ridiculous. I just want to follow this book to the letter, at last, and see what happens. I want to see if I can do it, even as tortilla chips, boysenberry pie, and frozen yogurt are calling to me. I'm starting to get into that phase where everything looks sooo good to me, and it's harder and harder to be disgusted by anything when it looks so amazingly good. So I have to remember that white flour has no nutrients, that eating sourdough bread is the same as eating a donut for all the nutrition it gives me. It's not easy, but I'm going to stay with it as much as I can until the last day has approached, and then we'll see what happens.

I also unfortunately forgot to weigh myself today, but I did it the next day.

The eats:
Sunday, February 7, 2010:
Breakfast: berries and an orange
Snack: I remembered one! A banana
Lunch: we went to this great organic place that follow's Dr. Weil's eating plan, and I had some teriyaki veggies with tofu and brown rice, which was wonderful. I'm sure there was olive oil and salt involved, but I haven't been having nuts if I have olive oil, so I'm hoping that it all works out for the best.
Snack: some baby carrots, although today I was actually full from my lunch as opposed to yesterday when I didn't have any beans or anything. That's what I forget! Usually I do have tofu or beans with any meal. A LOT of beans--they're unlimited!
Dinner: we ate in (finally!) and I cooked broccoli with grilled red pepper and tomatoes. I finally had a meal with no salt, no oil, nothing. However, I did unfortunately forget to add beans, and I think I overcooked the tomatoes. Next time, I think I'll start with the red pepper slices and beans/tofu, and then put in the tomatoes just to cook them and brown them. All the same, it was really good and I was full. I think I also had an apple or something.

That's that! And I want to get in what I ate yesterday, and then tomorrow I can start afresh with today's!

Day 6, 36 to go

Now that it's morning, I have time to remember and write what I ate last saturday. Unfortunately I haven't been able to open my computer, or perhaps didn't want to over vacation, but now I have and can continue on.
Because we're on a trip, I unfortunately can't make my own meals all the time--we eat out a lot, and I hate to be inconveniencing my family so much, so some of Fuhrman's strict rules have been broken, especially in the salad dressing/olive oil sector.

All the same, here's the final tally for....
Saturday, February 6, 2010:
Breakfast: berries and an orange
Snack: none, I'm afraid--I learned to bring something with me the next day
Lunch: greek salad at a cafe, no meat or dairy, but they smothered it in dressing. It seemed light to me, but I knew that it had salt and oil in it. I'm disappointed, but I just have to deal with it.
Snack: an apple, I think, since we came home for a bit that day
Dinner: another greek salad, actually, at a restaurant--no meat or cheese or breads or anything, just like above, but again the dressing wasn't the best. I do what I can.

So there you have it, and I'm afraid that the rest of the days haven't fared much better...but I guess we'll see on the next one.

Monday, February 8, 2010

Day Five, 37 to go

I have been horribly absent from my blog! Don't worry, nonexistent readers, I have stuck with the plan as much as I have been able to. However...some things have unfortunately not gone well. As I am on vacation, I have not voluntarily broken my promise to myself, and to anyone who might ever read this, but have instead been forced through many eating-out excursions and the general frustration of my mother and sister have had to adjust my eating. I often have to eat salad at a restaurant with olive oil in it, and which probably has a great deal of salt. This is very upsetting, but we do what we can. I also feel horribly for making my mother and sister go so much out of their way just because my eating plan is so restrictive. I mean, I know that Dr. Fuhrman says that olive oil just goes straight to your hips, and while healthier than butter or margarine, is still just all fat, I don't know what to tell him. The idea of eating just plain romaine for lunch with nothing else is actually horrifying. Really? So i have as little salad dressing as I possibly can, and always order it on the side.

Anyway, Friday, the day of my actual flight to Arizona, had some problems. I had been feeling weird all day, mostly because I couldn't think what I was forgetting (it turned out I had forgotten to pack quite a bit, but it all worked out), and I was nervous and I was excited and it had been a long, bad week before I left and my body was all over the place. Again, I didn't really feel like eating much, but I ate anyway, and then when it was dinner time on the plane they didn't have anything that met my needs (of course) and so I had this paltry little salad and then we got in and I was starving, finally after all this time of not really wanting anything, and it was just a mess. I just remember being in the Safeway here, food all around me but unable to eat any of it, and practically sobbing with hunger that was clawing at me from the inside out. It was not pleasant, and perhaps I should have brought some sort of vegetables for the situation, but it just didn't work out like that. It was a bad day, and here's the final tally:

Friday, February 5, 2010:
Breakfast: berries and an orange
Snack at work: banana
Lunch: mixed greens salad with balsamic vinegar and baby carrots
Snack at home/on plane: grapes and mixed berries
Dinner(ish): mine (and my mothers') tiny salads from the plane. no dressing because they had high fructose corn syrup and I still had some berries.
Later Dinner: Romaine salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing and other veggies, peanuts, a banana, an apple, etc etc. I was very, very hungry. It was unpleasant.
On the plus side, I now know what that "true hunger" Fuhrman mentioned in his book feels like. It's an ache that feels like someone is trying to claw their way out of your stomach.

Obviously, I'm very, very behind, but it's also very late and I'm very tired, so I'm going to bed now, and hopefully tomorrow I can remember what I ate on Sat and Sun and write it all down.

Hope someone's reading--if not, I hope I can keep on anyway...

Friday, February 5, 2010

Day Four, 38 to go

Yesterday, I didn't feel like eating dinner. I ate some fruit, which was great, and I had some pita bread, but other than that I didn't feel like eating anything. My mother, who in my life has the ultimate wisdom on all things, reassured me that I am not dying and do not have cancer. I am still concerned.
Other than that, however, I am doing pretty well! I'm still worried about the trip I'm going on today, but I think my family will be understanding and supportive that I don't want to break my pact with myself, and with whoever might ever read this. It won't be easy, but I'm going to do it!
I also exercised some yesterday, but didn't have time to do as much as I wanted to, and still have an enormous excess of energy that is driving me nuts. That, and I think I might be listening to too much disco music. It's energizing, but kind of starting to take over. Early this morning I woke up a little bit, but couldn't get back to sleep for a while because disco songs kept playing in my head. It's time to stop.
Other than that, good day! And I'm excited to go on my trip today. When I next write this, I'll be in Arizona! Exciting for me after such a long winter. It just snowed here, too, which is tough, but I'm getting away!

The Food:
Breakfast: berries, orange, some water
Snack at work: banana
Lunch: mixed greens salad with baby carrots and balsamic vinegar
Snack at home: grapes, tangerines, handful of raw cashews
Dinner: more grapes (I'm an addict!), an apple, pita bread with some low-fat/low-salt hummus. I'll admit that the hummus had some oil in it, but life is short and it's all I felt like eating.

Good enough? The rest of the evening was all packing, although I did happen to catch Everyone Says I Love You, which I haven't seen in forever and forgotten how much I love. I know I'm the only one who likes it, but it's a good time!

Hope someone's out there....keep me on track!

Day Three

Yesterday was a tough day for me. I got to see an old friend of mine, which honestly got me through the rest of it, and then I had a long evening meeting that took a lot out of me. But I'm very proud of myself, because I stuck to my guns despite my precarious mood, and did very well at it! No cheating, no binging because of a hard day, nothing. Go me! And good LORD does it feel good.
I'm starting to get to that point, now that I'm writing this and at the beginning of Day Four, where I really feel the energy from my healthy eating taking over, and I start to look forward to an exhausting workout. There are funny little things that happen when I go on this plan: my digestion is amazing, I get really great skin, and I have an even larger excess of energy--and I'm already an exceedingly energetic person. That usually means for me that I really need to workout or something every day, or else I just start going nuts with all the energy that is contained within me yet never released. Definitely a workout day today, I am telling you. And I love that I actually want to workout! Exciting.

Ok--the tally:
Wednesday, February 4, 2010:
Breakfast: usual berries and orange, a glass of water in there somewhere
Snack at work: small banana, tangerine
Lunch: Salad from salad bar with mixed greens (spinach, romaine, etc), carrots, beets (which may have had sodium as they may have been canned :/), chickpeas, and balsamic vinegar; apple.
Snack at home: tangerine. I also later danced to disco music as exercise. Man I love disco...
Dinner: Orange and Jicama salad with an orange vinaigrette dressing.
I may have gone a little too much on the dressing side, and again I didn't have cooked veggies, but it was a restaurant situation. I still feel proud of myself, and think I'm doing a pretty good job. I'm also starting to feel the effects of my diet, so I really hope that I can keep on it.

Tomorrow I'm going on vacation with my family to Arizona, which is always an excuse to eat badly and then decide to eat healthfully. I just hope that I don't give in to all the things there: good desserts at new restaurants, concessions at the movies, frozen yogurt just because it's actually warm enough to eat it there....there's so much! But I will resist, and think of this blog, and how I don't want to lie about it.

Keep me strong!

Day Two

I was so tremendously good yesterday! I am very proud of myself. I have also been re-reading parts of Eat to Live just to remind myself all the eating rules, and why it's so important to stop eating junk. It's always good to remember that raw sugar increases insulin and increases my body's desire to retain fat when insulin is raised. I was also working on a research project, which always makes me want to snack while I look things up and write about them, but I ate grapes and tangerines and other healthy foods instead, which I am really proud of. I've found that baby carrots, celery (if you can stand it without adding something to it), grapes, cut up apples, and other similar foods can be GREAT snacks. I've found that I like to crunch on things, and also enjoy eating things that I can just pick up and snack on.
Phew! Made it through day two. And I'm dying to weigh myself now that I've had a couple of days without salt, and see if any of the weight I saw on the scale last Sunday was salt-related water weight, but I'm going to make myself wait. If I start weighing myself more than once a week, I start obsessively weighing myself trying to anticipate loss, and then just drive myself crazy. It's not worth it!

Anyway, here's the round up:
Day Two (40 left): February 2, 2010
Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries for breakfast with an orange.
Snack at work: banana
Lunch: spinach, romaine, and other greens salad with baby carrots and balsamic vinegar; granny smith apple
Snack(s) at home: Tangerines, banana, grapes, apple, probably more fruit in there somewhere; one handful of raw cashews. yum!
Dinner: Green salad with raspberry/balsamic vinegar spray dressing thing, there may have been another tangerine in there somewhere.

The only thing I did do against the plan was skip cooked green veggies. Personally, I'm not a big fan of them and their taste, and I hate hate hate cooking. It's going to take some work, but if anyone is reading this and has some good vegan, no salt, no butter, no oil, no sugar (basically veggies and spices and vinegar, etc) recipes, I would really appreciate it!

Day One--again, again, again.

So...I failed. Already.

Yesterday, Sunday January 31, 2010, I completely and totally broke my code. I was on a film set and ate a bagel, chips, cookies, cakes, the whole caboodle. I tried to resist...but craft services is definitely crafty enough, and so I succumbed to taste glory. Again...I do regret it, and am mystified as to how I can stop myself.
I also weighed myself yesterday morning, to find that I weigh a horrendous 146.5 lbs, and at 5'2" that is NOT great. But it will decrease! I insist.

Today, Monday, February 1, 2010, I did much, much better. I ate nothing but fruits, veggies and some nuts, and am happy to report that I am feeling great! I also re-read some portions of Eat To Live, and realized, again, how poisonous bagels and chips and oils and salts really are. Processed food is slowly killing me, I know, but sometimes I find that hard to remember when it looks so good, and everyone around me is eating it, and then I taste a bit, and it tastes so scandalously good, and I just give in.

If there are any suggestions on how to avoid this criminally bad eating behavior, please tell me now! I could always use some help!
And if you have any questions on the book Eat to Live or on the medical author, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, please visit www.eattolive.com, read the book, or simply ask me! I'd be happy to answer any polite questions.

Anyway, I have decided to call today, February 1st, 2010, Day One of the eating plan. I am human, and I have decided to start again. Wish me luck!
